Due to the financial feasibility survey on Hanthawady International Airport, the project will be revealed only in 2022 as the earliest, learnt from the Ministry of Transportation. The new airport is situated 81 km fromYangon and it will be implemented in 9,690-acre land near Kyauk Taing Kan Village, Bago. ‘We have many topics to negotiate between government and contractor on loan and profit sharing matters. So we have to postpone more four years’ period than estimated time,” said the responsible officer from Civil Aviation Department, the Ministry of Transportation. Civil Aviation Directorate is discussing with tender winner JGC-Yongnam-CAL Consortium to sign Frame Work Agreement. The construction will cover main airport building to serve 12 million passengers per year, runway enable landing for Airbus 380, updated equipment for flying aid and hi-tech communications. With the aims to facilitate foreigners to Myanmar and world trotters who would like to go Yangon and other cities in lower Myanmar, the project has been laid.
