The Union Government has decided to terminate the urban projects to construct at former National Defence College and No. 1 Vehicle Station compounds in Dagon Township, Yangon. Yangon Heritage Trust evaluated that such decision shows that effort for Yangon urban and cultural heritage preservation gains speed and respecting people’s wish. “Now, we have got a great chance to consider carefully for future by taking one step back. This is related not only with army compound but also with historical area of the whole town. We have to review the Shwe Dagon surrounding, downtown Yangon, war office area, traffic and transport environs, railway stations, river bank area and other places by and large but not separately. We welcome both home and foreign investments to develop and modernize Yangon in line with appropriate policy to be sustainable and to conserve denotations of town,” said Dr. Thant Myint Oo, the chairman of YHT. In the 2lst Century Great Yangon Urban Project, the Shwe Dagon Pagoda is centre together with along the river bank and other architect heritages. Moreover, public transportation, office, shopping mall and housing complex will bloom and to implement those needs, Shwe Dagon Pagoda’s value in million Myanmars’ culture and worship should be conscious.
